Deploying Your First Discord.js or Python Bot
Learn how to upload your bot files, configure environment variables for tokens safely, and set startup commands.
### Overview
SM Cloud Discord Bot Hosting provides isolated container runtimes for Node.js (v18, v20, v22) and Python (3.10, 3.11, 3.12).
### Step 1: Uploading Your Code
You can upload files in two ways:
- **Web File Manager:** Go to your bot panel > Files, and drag-and-drop your zipped project or individual files.
- **SFTP:** Use FileZilla or WinSCP using your SFTP credentials shown on the panel settings page.
### Step 2: Installing Dependencies
- For **Node.js**: Ensure you have a valid `package.json`. On first startup, the panel automatically runs `npm install` or `pnpm install`.
- For **Python**: Include a `requirements.txt` file. The startup script executes `pip install -r requirements.txt`.
### Step 3: Managing Secrets (.env)
Never hardcode your bot token in your repository!
1. Go to **Startup** settings in the panel.
2. Under Environment Variables, add `DISCORD_TOKEN` and set your secret token.
3. Access it in code with `process.env.DISCORD_TOKEN` in JavaScript or `os.getenv('DISCORD_TOKEN')` in Python.
